About Me
Biography
Hi I'm Julie Dean and welcome to my daily nutrifix blog! As a nutritionist I love keeping up to date on the latest food fads and digging down to find the science (if any!) behind them.
Unsurprisingly I get asked by family, friends and colleagues at work about all kinds of food and health issues. I look forward to these blog posts being a great way to exchange comments and debate advice. I have two fabulous daughters aged 12 and 14 who both love to keep active and busy, in spite of the hormones kicking in now!
I obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Nutrition and Biology and qualified as a dietitian at University College Hospital London (1988). I then practised at the Whittington Hospital London and The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel.
In 1991 I moved into a career in health care communications, and in 1994 established myself as an independent nutrition consultant and health writer with communications and marketing expertise. Some of my clients include food and health companies, opinion former bodies, charitable organisations and consumer publications.
I am a State Registered Dietitian, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health, a Registered Nutritionist and an active member of a variety of key medical associations and nutrition groups.
I love to read, watch films and plays, spend time with my family and friends; eat my husbands great cooking (much better than my own!). My main way of keeping fit is going for a run but if there was more time I’d play tennis. I feel very lucky that I really enjoy my work and the world of nutrition, which has evolved so much in the last two decades.
